This year’s Halloween party was organized and put on solely by the students in Celebration Club.
The goal of Celebration Club is to help the students in the club learn the customs of traditional American holidays and to celebrate both American and Chinese holidays. The first holiday we celebrated was Halloween. The students decided to do this by throwing a costume party on the evening of Halloween.
The first thing they did was divide up tasks. Some students were in charge of decoration supplies, some in charge of food and drinks, and still others in charge of invitations and spreading the word. Next, the students handmade decorations for the classrooms and the party. They made spiders out of styrofoam and toothpicks, webs out of cotton or string, ghosts out of tissue paper, and bats out of garbage bags. When the decorations were complete, they hung them up in the classrooms for everyone to enjoy.
Next they came up with activities, such as musical chairs and pumpkin carving, to play during the party. Finally, the party night arrived, and everyone came dressed in costume. We all had an excellent time with food, games, music and candy.
